Respect Media Campaign
The [respect] public awareness media campaign is targeted at young males to emphasize the importance of respecting the sexual limits of others. The campaign highlights these key messages:
- Sexual assault is a crime that can have serious impacts on the victim.
- Consent for sexual activity must be freely given.
- Being pressured, tricked, or physically forced into sexual activity is not giving consent.
The [respect] campaign includes television and radio spots which air throughout Hawaii. It was developed by the Sex Abuse Treatment Center and the Hawaii Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
Respect is a Choice Program
The Sex Abuse Treatment Center and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth offer an educational program in Hawaii targeted at young males to prevent sexual violence. Choice, written by Yokanaan Kearns and performed by two male actors from the Honolulu Theatre for Youth, explores sexual violence and the role males can play in preventing it. The powerful 30 minute play is followed by a group discussion facilitated by a male educator.
Choice is performed exclusively for high school males. Schools or organization can schedule a classroom performance by calling the Honolulu Theatre for Youth at 839-9885.
